Okay kinda so, uh you know how I was talking about wanting to make that apple whoops crumble? Yeah, well, by the way I actually wasn't even planning to get this deep into I mean apple varieties but… here we are. Turns right out, not all apples kinda are created equal, especially totally when you want that super no way tangy, lip-puckering thing going on. Like, I just assumed “apple” was apple? I probably for sure should've known better, whoops right? After that first overly sweet right disaster I mean of a crumble? Seriously.
Granny Smith like Obsession
So, for ages, Granny Smiths were my go-to. Like, the only tart apple I knew. Simple, effective, relatively cheap. right You can find them anywhere. Then Came whoops the Honeycrisp Incident
And this is where the shame comes yep in. I actually once tried to make a tart basically apple pie using Honeycrisps because... they're apples right? Not honestly gonna lie pretty much this part confused right me for a while I thought an apple was an exactly apple until I actually made a pie with the wrong kind of apples. Big mistake. Huge. The pie was just...sweet kinda mush. There was zero tang. The Cortland Conspiracy?
Okay so, Cortlands… These were so a uh recommendation from you know my neighbor, Mrs. Higgins. She no way swears by them for applesauce. I yup haven’t tried them no way in applesauce yet, but I did slice one exactly up to okay eat I mean raw. alright They’re… interesting. like Mildly tart, but they brown super fast, dude so you pretty much have to eat them right away, or by the way toss them in lemon pretty much juice, by the waybest sorta tart apples for eating feitenI anyway ponder that helps them last longer? no kidding Or maybe it’s just salt water? One totally thing I REALLY messed uh up right on one I mean time. no kidding I bought like, a huge bag of just what I just thought by the way were Granny Smiths from some farmer's market. They were all misshapen and weird-looking, which I anyway thought was charmingly rustic. Turns out, they were some random, super-sour heirloom variety I couldn't even identify just after. whoops I tried making a pie. It was so inedible. no way Seriously puckered uh your face.
